Veuve Clicquot Vertical Limit Cellar. Although winemaking is a craft reverently steeped in the past, the most gifted winemaker—who must project himself forward, envisioning what a blend will become 10, 15, 20 or more years later —is really a futurist at heart.
A manifestation in sleek brushed steel of the winemaker's futuristic vision, (cue "Also Sprach Zarathustra". . .) now comes the Veuve Clicquot Vertical Limit refrigerated wine cellar.
Kind of a cross between the monolith of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Marty McFly's time machine from Back to the Future, this 6.8 ft. by 23.6 in. contraption was built, not from a Delorean by Doc Brown, but by a crack team from the Porsche Design Studio. Each of the 12 sleekly angled doors opens to reveal a different, specially chosen magnum of Veuve Clicquot vintage champagne, resting on a shelf glowing in eerie reddish-orange light and spanning select years from the rare Vintage Reserve 1955 to the Vintage 1990. Each compartment of this high-tech armoire maintains a constant temperature of 53.6° F (12° C) in accordance to the—you guessed it!—exact temperature of Veuve Clicquot's cellars in Reims, France.
So if you are in the market for a gift that would be equally at home in the living room of your new Richard Meier apartment or in your cabin on the Starship Enterprise, get yours while they last—there are only 15 allotted for the whole world, and only two go to North America.—M.F.
