Italy-based Riva has been making yachts and motorboats since the mid-1800s. Quiillen especially likes the Tritone, Aquarama, and Ariston models for their "mahogany decks, gorgeous lines, [and] very simple controls." Quillen says: "most powerboats seem to be stuck on the conspicuous expression of masculine muscle and design (giant engines, lots of equipment and hardware, and over-sized hulls and bows that dwarf the cockpit and stern parts of the craft); the Riva designs lack these muscular conceits and are utterly elegant: small, understated levers and controls, gorgeous lines and curving, tapered wood."
