On the off chance you haven't heard of them, Sigur Rós is a band from Iceland that plays some of the most incredible music you will ever encounter.
I've had this record — it's their fifth — for two weeks and haven't not been listening to it since, other than when I've attended another concert or slept. (The title, Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust, means "with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly.") I've also seen Sigur Rós play three shows in the past two weeks, and whether you experience them live or just played through your stereo, this is a band — and a record — that can make you dance or chant, feel ecstasy or despair, or both; or maybe all of these. And maybe all in the same song.
Sigur Rós has a lead singer who plays the guitar with a violin bow, a bass player who plays his instrument with a drum stick, a keyboard player who plays rocks, and a drummer who looks about 12. Their backup singers have stadium-size voices.
Do me and yourself a favor and buy this record and listen to it. It will definitely clear your mind. And it may take over your life. —SEAN AVERY
