Daniel Day-Lewis has a richly artistic pedigree: he's the son of Cecil Day-Lewis, poet laureate of England from 1968 to 1972, and actress Jill Balcon. Cecil, who died when his son was 15, tended to be remote. Day-Lewis was also bullied at school, but he has said that his difficult childhood drove him to develop a rich fantasy life, as well as a talent for mimicry. (Photo: Ireland, 1965)
